There seems to be a lot of confusion when it comes to Personal Branding. So What Is Personal Branding? Well, let me put it this way… YOU are your brand! Everything you say and do, don’t say and don’t do creates an image about you in the minds of those around you. Also how you dress, what you believe. how you talk, how you do your hair, even how you smell all plays a factor in how people think about you. Think about some of the most popular music artists out there today. All of them have something distinct about them, some more than others. Some of crazy hairstyles, wear unique clothes and even do out of the box things. All of which creates an image and an opinion in your minds about them.
“You Are Either Standing Out Or Blending In!”
This is why they do it. They want to stand out and be memorable. This is key when it comes to personal branding, it comes down to your reputation, what people say about you when you are not in the room. If you are dishonest and are always ripping people off or lying, people are going to see you as a lying jerk. If you live your life with integrity, you will build that reputation of being honest. Which one do you think people will want to work with? Do you see how important personal branding is?
Think about this…
The Benefits Of Personal Branding
When you define your personal brand and truly understand what you are expressing, the game is now in your favor. Personal branding will help you turn prospects into paying clients. It will help you land your dream job, it can even help you in your relationships!
And here is the really good news, if you don’t like what you are expressing to others, it’s not too late to change! When you can clearly see what you are expressing to others, you have a huge advantage. With the right skills, you can strengthen your personal brand and be able to offer more valuable. And in return, you will have a higher impact on others which will cause you to hold a very high place in the minds of your prospects and clients. Which means, you can make more money. How awesome would that be?!
Designing Your Personal Brand
As I said earlier, YOU are your brand. Which means you can take ownership over your personal brand and get rid of the bad stuff and add the right skills to increase the value you express and provide.
Here are 3 things you need to think about when it comes to your personal brand:
1. First impressions.
It’s been said that it takes less than 7 seconds to make a first impression. Which means, people are forming opinions about you before you ever open your mouth! Take some time to look at what other people are seeing and hearing. This can include how you dress, walk, stand, hand shake, smell and so on. I do want to stress, this is not about conforming to others, this is about refining your personal brand so you can continue to Rule Your Realm!
2. Out with the old.
When taking a hard look at how others are perceiving you, you might find qualities you don’t think are attractive. Well, this is good to know because now you can work on those things and continue to improve them. Maybe you find yourself always opening your mouth too soon without hearing everything the other person is saying… Well, now you can work on being slow to speak and quick to listen. See what I mean?
3. Skills to succeed.
Skills are beyond important in today’s economy. While so many are focusing on tactics and strategies in their business, very few are trying to improve their skill sets. People skills are a MUST! If you don’t know how to treat and talk to people, you are shooting yourself in the foot. And it will cost you future sales or future dream jobs. Think about it, which makes more money, a regular medical doctor or a brain surgeon? The brain surgeon! And why? Because they have acquired a specific skill set that makes what they do extremely valuable and get paid more. I also believe having skills to manage your money and business are also must haves.
