It can be very stressful and disappointing when you are trying to get hired. Especially when you need money now! It doesn’t matter if you are trying to get hired as an employee, consultant, freelancer, whatever… We all can feel the same thing.
I want to cover How To Get Hired by making it very easy for your potential employer or client to choose you over the other guys. In today’s society the standard has dropped in people’s work ethic, manners & productivity. Which is actually very good news for you! Because of this, this is a perfect opportunity for you to show just how awesome you are and you do this by bring the “WOW factor” with you…
Bringing The WOW Back…
Think about the last time you had an experience that made you go “wow”, or a person you met that blew your mind with how skilled, knowledgeable, or professional they were. That is were the key is, to bring the “WOW factor” wherever you go. Now this isn’t just some “cute” idea, this is something that can realistically be done and here is how to do it to get hired…
To be able to bring the “WOW factor” you must focus on creating value for your customers, clients, boss and whoever else you come into contact with. When you focus on creating value, you focus on bringing creativity, solutions and results to the table. Notice I didn’t say, focus on you? When you focus on you, usually you are giving a opportunity for your ego to get in the way. So don’t make it about you, make it about the “WOW”! When you do this, others will notice and see the value you bring. The goal should be to “WOW” them so much, that your prospects, customers, clients will love to be around you and they will for sure want you to be a part of their team… And they will be willing to pay you the prices you have set! When you leave a meeting for a potential job, you should be leaving whoever you had been talking to with a “WOW” experience. Let me be clear though, this is not trying to sell yourself, this is creating value and showing them that you are awesome… Not telling them.
When you give your customers, clients, or your boss a “WOW” experience, they will talk about it. They will send you referrals, they will give you bonuses, all because they value you and what you bring to the table. Also, when you create value around you, you are also ruling the realm around you too, because you will have greater influence to those around you. When you speak, they will listen.
A quick recap:
How To Get Hired? = Bring The “WOW” factor with you.
“WOW” factor = Value, creativity, solutions.
Benefits = Get hired, get referrals, get paid higher amount, get influence.
As you can see the payoff is huge and because so few actually do this, it will be even easier for you to stand out and “WOW” your clients, customers, prospects or boss. If you do feel that you might have a hard time producing the value, then you must focus on getting the skill sets you need to make it happen. This could be a skill that is needed for the industry you are in or people skills to better communicate and manage. Either way, skills are acquired, so go out there and get them! 🙂
Do you find it easy to get hired? What about bringing the “WOW” factor?
Keep moving forward!

Love it Paul, the Wow! I agree that when someone wows me it leaves a lasting impression, one that is not easy to forget. Imagine if job seekers and businesses alike always tried to wow their customers or potential employees… Talk about competitive edge…
Thank you Angie!! That is very true, it's too bad so many miss out on having that competitive edge. Well, I guess it is up to us to show people a better way! 😉
I actually wrote a whole book on this topic (let me know if you want a copy, Paul). It's all about knowing your stuff in an extremely competent but not cocky way.
Along with my pitch documents to folks, I always send along a list of the clients I've wowed and their testimonials.
Knowing your stuff is not only critical to your process, but it's also critical to being able to track down where clients are making bad assumptions – from the pitch meeting to the day you get your last payment and complete work, you can correct those assumptions all along the way.
True wow moments come from anticipating needs before they occur by allowing the client to see that you're about 5 steps ahead of the game.
Hi Nick! Thanks for stopping by! That is awesome you wrote a book on the topic, I would love to get a copy!
You are so right on, it is very smart to be using testimonials. And I couldn't agree more about knowing your stuff and being able to express that in a non-cocky way.
Keep up the great work Nick! 🙂
